By PGo
I bought this jacket to use during the Spring, Winter and Fall months for climbing Colorado's high peaks (over 13000 feet). So far it has done a fantastic job keeping me warm (when properly layered) and protected from the elements on a few climbs, that have seen temperatures in the single digits and wind chills well below zero. This jacket cuts wind very well. The hood is great, it sinches down nice and tight during a blizzard, no complaints there. It's also seems to be helmet compatible (although I'm not sure that's advertised on this jacket, so don't take that as the gospel truth). The arm gaskets are nice, and help ensure that snow doesn't get into the arms when adjusting clothing. The fit is nice, not as athletic as it could be, but it'll fit most body shapes whereas other jackets would not be suitable for some individuals.
Not sure about the water proofing of the jacket. I believe it has a DWR finish, which is nice for light rain and melting snow, but it won't last all day in a torrential downpour.
The fabric seems pretty breathable, but when you're really working up a sweat the side zips are useful for dumping additional heat. The only problem I have with the side zips, is that I'm not sure they're really as good as pit zips would be in most circumstances for dumping heat. Of course, the side zips have their advantages, especially if you need to get into your pockets, or want to put the jacket over a climbing harness or backpack hip belt. That said, the side zips are kind of hard to use at times and may not be super durable, but we'll have to see...
Overall, this jacket is doing well so far. It only gets 4 stars because I haven't used it enough to really justify five stars yet.
